Does that occur to any Americans that listen to the CBS Evening News?

Off to the opera tonight, to see Virgil Tracy's new show.  Looking forward to it much, I must say.  Although it's Jonathan Dove, and whilst the musical community seem united in wetting their pants with excitement whenever he writes a new piece, I remain pretty unconvinced.  A wonderful friend described it as Extremely competent, extraordinarily well crafted shit, and I tend to agree with him.  But everyone else keeps telling me that I should listen to his stuff, and that it is truly awesomely wonderful.  Hmmm.  I shall go with an Open Mind.  After all, if Virgil can't convince me it's good, there's no hope.

Unfortunately this means I'm missing my honey doing his next 3 Men adventure - iplayer time I think.  ALthough it's never quite the same, knowing I'm not seeing it first of all.....ah well.  If the stills I've seen are anything to go by and the descriptions from some of the crew, then it's going to be a giggle.  I shall Enjoy in my own time.

I'm afraid I'm not so very disciplined in the matter of only posting when I have something interesting to say, but had to stop by to go

Woooaaah.  Not The Nine O Clock News Retrospective.  My goodness I was sensible 30 years ago.   A babe then, and a babe now.

And all jolly interesting besides.  And it was still funny!  Blessed be John Lloyd, now and unto the ages of ages.

The final departure

I'm writing this now because I won't be here to write on the night. Some of you may know, most of you probably won't, that New Year's Day will see the broadcast of the final episode to feature David Tennant as The Doctor. The hype around this has reached a level not seen since 1981, when Tom Baker left the role. Although David Tennant has portrayed the character for four years, which is less than Tom Baker, he has imprinted on this generation in much the same way as his predecessor did with a previous generation. As such it's quite likely that there will be a few tears in households around the country, as children who have found Doctor Who over the last few years see the end of "their" Doctor. Because it's a truism that children each have their own Doctor, the Doctor who was incumbent when they first found the series. But, perhaps more importantly, it will likely be the most watched programme in the country over the christmas period. BBC1, New Year's Day, 6.40pm. I'll be watching. And I may even shed a tear.

I forgot to mention that I received some news before I finished work for Christmas. An article I submitted is going to be published in a journal. Admittedly the Libraries for Nursing Bulletin is not a major journal, but it is indexed on CINAHL, so people will be able to search for it and reference it in the future. So, yay me.

Among these names is the 100th serviceman to have been killed in Afghanistan in 2009. It's important to remember the British servicemen and women who will have to spend Christmas on operations in Afghanistan, or deployed on Royal Navy ships at sea, or wherever else they are serving.
